For International Women’s Day 2024, Moveable Type Theatre presents ‘LIGHT IN ME, DON’T DIE.’ Its title is taken from the poetry of Hiba Abu Nada, a Palestinian writer killed by Israeli airstrikes in October last year. The show presents the words of Gazan women collated from poems, news reports, social media and blog posts — documenting everyday life under a siege and assault that has already claimed over 25,000 Palestinian lives: a war on men, women and children, in which two mothers are murdered every hour, in which almost a million women and girls are internally displaced without proper access to food, water and period products.

From expectant mothers giving birth in the devastated health system, to a love story in a displacement camp, to courageous journalists such as Noor Harazeen (who refused to evacuate alongside her children in order to stay in Gaza and keep reporting), ‘Light In Me, Don’t Die’ reveals the ongoing violence against Palestinians in Gaza, and shows the incredible human spirit that still burns amongst the rubble, all in the words of Gazan women.

As usual, a drink and a pasty for every theatregoer are included in the ticket price. You have a choice of meat or vegan pasty. The drink will be either a pint of Totnes Brewing Co beer, a glass of house wine or a soft drink. In the space of a generous lunch break you will be fed, watered, and watch some newly devised theatre. What’s not to like!

DOORS 12pm / SHOW STARTS 1pm / TICKETS £15

This event is part of Totnes X 2024.
